Amidst the hustle and bustle of the season, slow down and share a cup of cheer with someone you care about at our second annual A Very Britsburgh Christmas Tea. The perfect occasion to don your most decked out hat and your Victorian finest, this festive event will feature afternoon tea, tales from Charles Dickens, Victorian Christmas traditions, live music from Jim Skiff and a round of joyful caroling to get you in the spirit!
Britsburgh is please to partner with the Pittsburgh chapter of the internatioanal Dickens Fellowship to welcome Marsha Maietta, our guest speaker who will talk about "Charles Dickens' Other Christmas Stories," i.e. those other than his most famous, "A Christmas Carol."
Kim Szczypinski, of both Britsburgh's and the Pittsburgh Dickens Fellowship's Boards of Directors, will also present on Victorian Christmas Customs and Traditions, heavily influenced by the success of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol."

Afternoon Tea Fare: Freshly-steeped tea, tea sandwiches (egg salad, ham and cheese, cheese, and cucumber), scones with clotted cream and jam or butter, and iced tea and lemonade and an extra special authentic Victorian recipe Dickensian cake in celebration of the season!
Marsha Maietta is a resident of Bellevue and has practiced law since 1982. A native of Meadville, PA Marsha graduated from Allegheny College with a B.A. in religious studies and an informal minor in art history. Her law degree is from Duquesne University. Since 1994 Marsha has been a member of the Dickens Fellowship, serving in the past as its president and social director. At present she is the Fellowship's vice president and program chair. Marsha is a lover of all literature and also enjoys art, film, theater and travel. She is a member of the Fifth Northumberland Fusiliers (and a past Brigadier of that local Sherlock Holmes club) and a member of Britsburgh. Her talk will focus on Dickens' Christmas stories in the context of Dickens' life and work in general. By the way, you will be interested in knowing that in June 2025 the Dickens Fellowship, Pittsburgh Branch will celebrate its 100th birthday!
Kim Szczypinski is a member of Britsburgh's Board of Directors and its Vice President for Events and Corporation Secretary. She is also a member of the Pittsburgh Dickens Fellowship Board and a member of the Fifth Northumberland Fusiliers local Sherlock Holmes Society. Kim has a BA in Education from the University of Pittsburgh and an MA in History from Duquesne University, where she also works since 2004, most recently as Study Abroad Coordinator. She lives in Pittsburgh's Lawrenceville neighborhood.
